Projects
Ongoing projects at CSNP include boardwalk extensions, improvements to our native plant garden, removal of invasive species, trail maintenance, and the development of our Interpretive Trail.
Local volunteers, Boy and Girl Scouts, EcoWatch Teams, Hands-On-Atlanta volunteers, and many other individuals and groups participate in projects at the nature preserve. If you have an idea for a project or would like to assist in a project, please call 678-951-0105.
Our Native Plant Garden at the preserve entrance was constructed by EcoWatch Americorps and CSNP members in 1999. Like the preserve itself, the garden is continuously evolving as various volunteers lend their individual touch to the garden and its surroundings. Nature adds a few surprises herself as new ferns and the occasional trillium pop up unexpectedly.
Our boardwalks are expanding to allow year-round access to the Beaver Pond Trail that loops around to join the Upland Trail leading back to the entrance. Connected to the boardwalks (or close by) are the Observation Deck, a sitting area, and a small bridge crossing the wetlands.
Research projects at the preserve have included a hydrology study by Georgia State University Geology students, an amphibian study conducted by Emory University undergraduates, a turtle survey conducted by a Fernbank Ecology Club member, and an inventory of aquatic invertebrates in the creek conducted by a University of Georgia Ecology student. Bird species are listed and inventoried by several of our regular birders
