SWEEP THE HOOCH 2017

APRIL 8, 2017 9:00 AM TO NOON

SOUTH FORK CONSERVANCY, FRIENDS OF MEDLOCK PARK, CLYDE SHEPHERD NATURE PRESERVE

Sweep the Hooch, a program of the Upper Chattachoochee Riverkeeper, is an annual day of service to the Chattahoochee River mobilizing volunteers on foot, in waders, or paddlers to remove trash at sites throughout the watershed. Sweep the Hooch brings people together to give back to the mighty river that gives us so much.

This year, South Fork Conservancy, the Friends of Medlock Park, and the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve are teaming up to clean up South Fork Peachtree Creek, a major tributary of the Chattahoochee River.  We will focus our attention on the creek as it flows through the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve and downstream through Medlock Park in Decatur.

The South Fork Conservancy was formed by a group of concerned neighbors with a vision to restore and reconnect communities all along South Peachtree Creek.  The Conservancy has raised awareness, built trails, and forged strong community partnerships.

The Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve is a 28 acre sanctuary for wildlife encompassing wetlands and upland forests along the floodplain of South Peachtree Creek in the Medlock neighborhood of Decatur.  Volunteers manage the nature preserve for the benefit of the community and the enjoyment of visitors.

The Friends of Medlock Park is a group of volunteers formed under the umbrella of Park Pride to work with DeKalb County to maintain and improve Medlock Park, a vital part of the Medlock neighborhood north of Decatur.

Please join us on Saturday April 8 from 9:00 am to noon as we remove tires, trash and debris from the creek.  We will meet at Medlock Park at 874 Gaylemont Circle, Decatur at 8:30 AM for instructions and forming teams, then get to work.

We will provide tools, gloves and trash bags but please bring waders or old sneakers to get in the creek.  Volunteers are also needed to take the bags of trash to the dumpsters so if you would rather not get wet, we have a job for you.
